UCSF DERC

The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center (DERC) is one of eleven research centers established by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) to accelerate basic and clinical research into diabetes. The DERCs, and the seven related Diabetes Research and Training Centers are intended to create localized centers of excellence that improve the quality and multidisciplinary nature of research on diabetes in the United States.  The UCSF DERC participates in the nationwide program supported by the NIDDK to foster research and training in the areas of diabetes and related endocrine and metabolic disorders.

The UCSF DERC integrates over 40 diabetes-oriented investigators at the University of California, San Francisco.  The UCSF DERC is a highly integrative program at UCSF, representing both basic research and clinical departments.  The research components of the UCSF DERC include the following four areas:

The UCSF DERC facilitates and supports research in diabetes and endocrinology in a variety of ways.  Six Biomedical Research Core facilities are designed to facilitate the inter-disciplinary investigations of UCSF DERC scientists:

 Lentiviral RNAi Core

A Pilot and Feasibility Grant Program aims to promote new investigators in diabetes and to encourage new initiatives in diabetes research.

An Enrichment Program organizes diabetes-oriented educational activities such as the Diabetes Center Seminars, Endocrine Grand Rounds, the UCSF Diabetes Center retreat, the UCSF Diabetes Center Visiting Professor and an annual post-graduate CME diabetes course.
